On Saturday,November 23,2002, Aleia would have been 25 years old, If she had not been killed by a drunk driver in 1994. I cannot help but think of how she would have grown, would she be married, would she have children. Sometimes the what could have been's can really bring you down. My youn gest daughter gets sad because she says she barely remembers her sister since she was only seven when she died. My son says he remembers very little because he has repressed it so much so that he wouldn't hurt so much. It is amazing how one drunk driver can change so many people's lifes with one snap decision. Tonight, while watching NBC's E.R., everything seemed to rush back to me. In the show,a man's 2 boys and his wife were hit by a drunk driver while building a snowman,in their own yard. Of course, the dui was in good shape, and quite boisterous considering he was sauced. The wife and one son died. When people see these things, how can they repeat it in real life? The sad fact is this happens all the time. Statistcs have raised in the last couple of years, and many wonder why. My personal feeling is that it mostly the fault of the lawyers who help them. When you type in dui on a search engine, you will get many, many sites from lawyers who claim they can get you off of dui's. I have even seen several who tell you how to behave when being arrested for dui's that can help you get off of these charges. This really appalls me!! As long as there are people out there willing to make a buck by setting these guys free, those people will worry a lot less about getting in trouble. It really can be a sad world!!!
