In her junior year, Aleia participated in a program run by SADD in her high school. During an entire day, she carried a black carnation to symbolize that she was killed by a drunk driver. During that day no one was allowed to talk to her or listen to her. At the beginning of the day Aleia was so excited to get to be "dead". But by the end of the day, she told me it was no fun to be dead.. |

| The babysitter was only twelve and in the eighth grade. The passenger who was in the drunk driver's car was killed instantly too. He had decided to go along with the driver for a beer run. The drunk driver suffered a severe leg fracture but he did survive! |
All three of these people died because one man decided to drink and drive. Aleia joined SADD the beginning of her senior year. I am sure she must have thought this would never happen to her. We found in her drawers, after she died, several pieces of literature about not driving drunk. She even had a bumper sticker saying "I love sober drivers." |

It is my hope that someone will see this site and decide not to drink and drive!
